The arteries in your body start coming out from your heart with oxygenated blood around the body. If you think anyone can live without veins and arteries you are wrong. Once the blood in the heart leaves through the arteries, it delivers oxygen around your whole body, including to your brain and muscles. After the blood has delivered oxygen all over your body, it returns to the heart through the veins. Did you know that arteries can be thinner than a hair and as thick as your thumb? Can you believe that if you connected all of your blood vessels in a straight line it would go around the world at least 3 times? Veins and arteries are everywhere in your body! Everywhere you look in your body you may notice red or blue lines. The red ones are arteries and the blue ones are veins. The most important artery in your body is the aorta. It delivers oxygenated blood to the other arteries in your body. Did you know that every day your heart beats 100,000 times a day and 35 million times a year? It also pumps 5 quarts of blood throughout your circulatory system every minute!
