The stomach is like an oversized bean. The stomach helps you digest food. The bolus is pushed down into the stomach from the esophagus. The layers of the stomach walls are the longitudinal, circular, and the oblique. The stomach linings releases acid and mucus. The acid, enzymes, and the gastric juices help break down bolus into chyme. The stomach can't do this alone; it needs help from the liver.
